The PHIT Act

The International Health and Racquet Sports Association (IHRSA) is the health and fitness associations National Trade Organization.  They have been very active on Capitol Hill promoting and educating Congress on the PHIT Act.  The PHIT Act has been around for years and continues to gain more support.  PHIT stands for Personal Health Investment Today.  The PHIT Act allows individuals & families to use funds in pre-tax medical accounts to lower cost of sports, fitness and other qualified physical activities & equipment such as:

  • Youth & Adult Sports League Fees
  • School Pay-to-Play Sports Fees
  • Gym & Health Club Memberships
  • Personal Trainers
  • Bike Rentals
  • Sports & Fitness Equipment
  • Sport-Exclusive Footwear
  • Tournament & Race Registration Fees
  • Youth Camps
  • Fitness Tracking Devices
  • & Much More

The PHIT Act would make any expense exclusively intended for the sole purpose of being physically active eligible for FSA/HSA reimbursement. Consumers would save 20-37%.  The attached video and website will provide more information.  This bill has broad bi-partisan support.  We are also very happy that MN Representative Brad Finstad is a co-sponsor of the bill.   This brings the total House Co-sponsors of the PHIT Act to 44.  It also has 16 Senate Co-sponsors. Although we cannot predict when or if it will be passed, we can say that the RAC fully supports the PHIT Act.

Dance Blast

Did you know that the RAC has a total of ten Dance Blast classes a week? That means you have ten opportunities to turn any day into a
total party! My name is Dani Rozenberg and I am just one of the seven Dance Blast instructors we have here at the club. If you have ever considered trying dance fitness, THIS IS YOUR SIGN!

Here are three tips to get you started...

1. Find a spot in the room where you feel comfortable. Don’t be afraid to stand closer to the front- The better you can see the instructor, the more quickly you will be able to pick up the choreography.
2. Watch the instructor’s feet. Start by focusing on getting the feet down and THEN adding the
hips, the arms, the neck, the ~attitude~.
3. Have fun! Don’t be afraid to try something new or to take on a character while dancing;
When else do you ever get to OPENLY play the role of Beyoncé? Think of someone who you admire as a dancer and move with THEIR energy.

I look forward to seeing you on the Dance Floor!
